Allow our local guides to immerse you in the natural and cultural heritage of this unique part of Japan, so close to Japan’s capital city. Fuji, Hakone, Izu National Park also hosts World Heritage, Global Geopark, and Japan Heritage areas. Tour starts from Odawara bullet train station and concludes at Atami bullet train station, both on Japan’s Tokaido main trunk bullet train line (connecting Tokyo with Kyoto and Osaka) and less than 1 hour from Tokyo. To minimise carbon footprint, we use local public transport to move around from hike to hike on the tour. Hiking experience level: beginner~intermediate (must be capable of hiking up to 14kms per day over rolling volcanic terrain).

Itinerary

Day 1 0900 from Odawara Station	Hike Hakone Hachiri, a preserved section of the Old Tokaido Foot Highway that in feudal Japan linked the modern capital of Edo (Tokyo) in the east with ancient capitals of Kyoto and Osaka in the west
Day 2	Turn south along the central spine of Izu Peninsula, hiking Old Shimoda Foot Highway following gushing rivers carving out waterfalls in the volcanic strata
Day 3	Take in the urban legend walk of the pretty little port town of Shimoda, where America opened Japan up to the world in the mid-19C
Day 4	Walk Jogasaki Coastline, a cliff-top romp over ancient lava flows battered by relentless Pacific waves
Day 5 Tour concludes Atami bullet train station about 5pm	Finish up with a climb to the summit of Mt Kurotake volcano high above the hot spring town of Atami, rewarded by great Fuji views from the top, weather permitting
