Overview
In 1854 Commodore Perry and the black ships of the U.S. Naval fleet anchored at Shimoda, known as the opening port of the Edo period. Visit Shimoda Park where you can overlook the cityscape of Shimoda.
Wakanoura promenade is beautiful coastline.
You will find the old Japan in classic gas lamps along Perry Road, in traditional houses with checkered black and white plastered walls. Stroll around town to catch a glimpse of times long gone in Shimoda’s unique scenery.
