Overview
For four centuries old Tokaido highway has linked Japan’s modern capital of Tokyo with the ancient capital of Kyoto.
The tour features the ancient highway Tokaido, 70 year old farmhouse stay and green tea fields grown with an agricultural heritage system.
The tour involves about 19km walk with an English speaking guide on Tokaido including one of the three most difficult passes on Tokaido, “Saya no Nakayama Pass”.
Stay at 70-year-old renovated guesthouse and enjoy healthy local food. Explore fertile green tea fields with “Traditional tea-grass integrated system” designated as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System and visit a small local craft shop on the second day.
Mt.Fuji view spots are on Tokaido too!

7 | Ai no Shuku, Kikugawa-juku(the mid-station) |
8 | <Mt. Fuji Viewpoint in winter on the way>Saya no Nakayama Pass |
9 | Break time at Ougiya, a teahouse at mountain pass/ Visit the Ukiyo-e Gallery “Yume Akari” |
10 | Kutsukake/Ni no Magari, steep and sharp curve |
11 | Nissaka-syuku : Honjin Remains/Hatago Kawazakaya Remains |
12 | Visit Koto-no-mama Hachimangu Shrine |
13 | Arrive at Tabinoya guesthouse around 17:00. |
14 | Relax and heal yourself from the fatigue of your trip with the nostalgic Goemon-buro Bath and the local home-style dishes |
Day 2
1 | (by car) Visit one of Japan’s leading green tea production areas where tea plantations are grown by the traditional tea-grass integrated system designated as a “Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System”. |

3 | Beautiful views of Mt. Fuji, Suruga bay and sacred megaliths in the primeval forest. |
4 | Drive to the top of Mt. Awagatake, the mountain with the kanji “茶” means tea. |

6 | Visiting Kudzufu (one of the three major ancient weaving traditions in Japan) craft studio / The whole program ends at Kakegawa Castle<Break-up around 12:00> |

※In the afternoon, you can walk around to see Kakegawa Castle tower and palace, or make a small trip by taking Tenryu Hamanako Railroad.
