Overview
Jizo Bodhisattva is the guardian deity of travelers and children in the Buddhism. It was introduced to Japan about 1,500 years ago.
In the past, famous Buddhist priest “Ku-kai” set the 88 pilgrimage (the most famous pilgrimage in Japan) in Shikoku district. According to the legend, Shuzenji Temple was built by Ku-kai and the head Buddhist priest of this temple took the sand from 88 temples in Shikoku back to and set the another 88 pilgrimage here in 1930. And many believers make a pilgrimage for 3 days every autumn. Many Jizo statues can be seen along the route.
Let’s enjoy making a good luck charm by carving before continuing your and go for a trip to embrace the Japanese culture and beautiful landscape. This is a modern style statue made in the way based on traditional wood carving technique.
