The Wasabi Trail: A Portal to the Ancient Earth
Description
Overview
This geo-tour takes place in Matsuzaki Town, located in the West Izu area of the Izu Peninsula. It offers a unique opportunity to explore wasabi fields and experience wasabi harvesting firsthand.
In collaboration with local farmers in the Ikeshiro district of Matsuzaki, participants will enjoy a guided walk led by a “Geo-guide.” You will learn about the “Traditional Wasabi Cultivation in Shizuoka,” which is recognized as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS). Following the educational walk, you can experience harvesting fresh wasabi directly from the fields. To top off the experience, a special lunch featuring a variety of wasabi-themed dishes will be served.
