Umegashima village is located in the headwaters of Abe River in Shizuoka city, at elevations ranging from 326 to 2,014 meters at the foot of the Southern Alps.
Umegashima village is dotted with breathtakingly beautiful tea gardens scattered across the mountain peaks.
Among them is a historically significant site – a former military encampment of Takeda against Tokugawa, during the Warring States, which has now been transformed into a tea garden.
There is also Japan’s highest-altitude tea garden, situated at 1,000 meters.
You’ll tour these tea gardens which differ from those in other regions.
The history and geology of the village is also outstanding to learn.
Depending on the season and program, you’ll deepen your understanding of tea through activities such as tea picking, hand-rolling tea leaves and tea tastings.
At your lodging, you’ll enjoy hot springs and local cuisine. Through the year, Umegashima village is worth to visit.
